An overview of Bryant Temple AME Church
Bryant Temple began life as All Saints Church on December 16, 1962. It was founded by the Rev. Mansfield Collins. In October 17, 1968, Bishop Harrison Bryant convened a special session and received All Saints into the AME denomination. More than thirty All Saints members became Bryant Temple charter members. Mrs. Edith Holland Bryant, wife of Bishop Bryant, was among the new charter members.
The property was purchased by the Southern California Annual Conference for $72,000, with the down payment of $16,500 paid by the nine Conference Trustees. The Temple’s Extension Department paid the monthly down payment for two years. The remaining $10,000 was paid off during the 10th anniversary celebration, leaving the church debt free at the time.
Unmatched pioneers: Shepards of the Temple
The first pastor of the Temple was Rev. J. Curtis Brooks, who served until August 1969. Rev. Brooks reported a total membership of 100 during his year of tenure. Rev. V. L. Brenson was assigned as the second pastor in September 1969. His goal was also to solidify the total membership at 100, and according to the church census for the year, he accomplished a total of 99 in his first year. The church cornerstone was laid in March 1970. A variety of clubs and organizations became an integral part of the church’s fabric and assisted in the growth of membership. These clubs had names such as Church Beautiful, Look Out, White Rose, and the Gentlemen’s Club. To become a member of the Fishing Club, you had to recruit a new church member.

After XX years as pastor, Rev Brenson retireed in 20XX leading the way for the Rev. Clyde W. Oden Jr.
During the 93rd Session of the Annual Conference The Rev Dwayne A. Jackson was appointrd pastor of Bryant Temple AME Church.
